Healing Winter Ailments (Coughs)

Especially relevant for this time of year, and as most of my household have been come down with a nasty cough, I made up this chesty cough syrup. It helps soothe any inflammation and help heal the lungs.

  • 1/2 cup of dried herbs (a mix of Coltsfoot, Marshmallow Root, Hyssop, Thyme and a tiny amount of Licorice Root)
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3 cups of honey

Place the herbs and water in a non-aluminium saucepan and bring to the boil. Once boiling remove from the heat and allow to steep, covered, for 20 minutes.

Strain, remove the herbs and return the liquid to the saucepan.

Bring back to the boil and simmer, add the honey and mix well.

Pour into sterilised bottles. It will keep for a year in the fridge once opened.

Dosage: Take 5ml every 2 hours as necessary.

I alternated between giving the syrup with Bryonia Alba 30c when symptoms were at their worst. Also I ensured everyone had enough Vit C and Zinc, drinking plenty of water and have enough rest. I have also been using an oil burner with essential oils of Tea Tree, Eucalyptus and Lavender to great effect.
